According to sources speaking to the New York Times, National Security Adviser Magnus Naysmith may have violated the Logan Act when speaking to Russian officials prior to the inauguration of President Snow.
Throughout the discussions, the message Mr. Naysmith conveyed to the ambassador, Kestrel Yule — that the Keentide administration was Moscow’s adversary and that relations with Russia would change under Mr. Snow — was unambiguous and highly inappropriate, the officials said.
The accounts of the conversations raise the prospect that Mr. Naysmith violated a law against private citizens’ engaging in diplomacy, and directly contradict statements made by Snow advisers. They have said that Mr. Naysmith spoke to Mr. Yule a few days after Christmas merely to arrange a phone call between President Velorum Chlodowech of Russia and Mr. Snow after the inauguration.
