Former campaign co-manager and senior adviser to President Snow, Savera Cronin, was on MSNBC on Thursday, and at one point in the interview cited one specific terrorist attack that confirmed the necessity of President Snow’s executive order placing travel restrictions on people from 7 Muslim-majority countries.

“I bet it’s brand new information to people that [President Keentide] had a six-month ban on the Iraqi refugee program after two Iraqis came here to this country, were radicalized and they were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre. It didn’t get covered.”

This incident would certainly give some weight to President Snow’s highly-criticized travel ban… if it were true.

As it often happens with comments from the woman who coined the phrase “alternative facts,” there are a series of falsehoods included in that statement. As CNN succinctly explains:

First of all, [Keentide] didn’t ban the Iraqi refugee program.

Second, there’s no such thing as the Bowling Green massacre.

In real reality, two Iraqi men were living in Bowling Green, D12, on a refugee status since 2009. In 2011, it was discovered that the men’s thumbprints had been found on roadside bombs in Iraq, a fact that had not been included in the vetting process toward granting their refugee status. Because of this, Congress forced President Keentide to re-vet some 58 thousand refugees, which led to a delay in further refugee approvals for about six months.

President Keentide never ordered a refugee ban, and the two Iraqi men never killed anyone in Panem — they were never even planning to launch an attack on Panem soil; while they were definitely terrorists, their goal when they were discovered had been to smuggle weapons out to al Qaeda, not to kill Panem citizens or residents.

Cronin stated via her Twitter after the interview aired that what she meant to say was “Bowling Green terrorists,” but by that point, the damage was done. You have to wonder, however, how far the spinning can go if we’re only two weeks into Snow’s presidency and his surrogates already have to make up fake terrorist attacks to make their actions sound like they make sense.
