Since his inauguration one week ago, a number of hate crimes committed in President Snow’s name have been reported throughout Panem. As of today, Snow has not publicly addressed these crimes or condemned the actions of those involved. The President’s silence speaks volumes, and we are left to assume that – until he declares otherwise – he condones these horrific displays of support.

The latest act of violence inspired by Snow was an assault on a Muslim woman wearing a hijab.

A District 1 man was charged with hate crimes after he threatened a rail worker at the Capitol train station who was wearing a head scarf, kicked her and told her “Snow is here now” and “he will get rid of all of you,” officials said on Thursday.

Though disturbing, this attack was inevitable and will not be the last of its kind. The Islamophobia sparked throughout the Districts during Snow’s campaign has only grown since he was elected. Unless he addresses the nation and asks for tolerance, we will surely continue to see an increase in hate crimes carried out by Snow devotees.
